Aphrodite on Poptropica Mythology Island

Aphrodite’s God Quiz in Mythology Island

This is pretty much spelled out in part 3 of the videos for my Poptropica Mythology Island Walkthrough, but a lot of people are commenting about having problems with Aphrodite’s quiz about the different Gods. When you go to Poseidon’s domain, you’ll find Aphrodite on the beach. She’ll give you a special mirror that you can use to teleport between the different areas in the game, which saves you a lot of travel time. But before you get the mirror, you need to get all the answers to her quiz right. Here are the correct answers in order:

  1. ARES
  2. HERMES
  3. APHRODITE
  4. ARTEMIS
  5. HESTIA

P.S. If you watch the video walkthrough you’ll see I forgot the last one but remembered on my last try! Hestia is the goddess of the hearth. She is the sister of Zeus, Poseidon and Hades, and was one of the original twelve Olympians. But she gave up her throne to Dionysus so that she could tend the hearth and sacred fire of Mount Olympus.

Crossing the River Styx in Poptropica Mythology Island

How to Cross the River Styx in Mythology Island

A lot of people are having trouble with crossing the River Styx in Charon’s ferry boat while exploring the Underworld in PoptropicaMythology Island. In my walkthrough video, I show you how to do this part, but since so many people are still having problems (or maybe just haven’t watched the whole video), I’ll explain it in more detail. This part is pretty easy and it comes down to just one key part: knowing where you should stand.

The answer to that is to stand right where Charon is. Then, all you need to do is avoid the flaming skulls by ducking down and the snapping monster jaws by jumping up. It’s really that easy because if you’re standing in this spot you’ll be in a perfect position to avoid the falling stalactites as well.If you have a minimizer, minimize yourself first, then stand at the back of the boat. There, you only need to jump from one obstacle, the crocodile. Trust the guy piloting the boat to know the best place to stand!

Here are a few screenshots to show you exactly where to stand and what to do when each of the obstacles comes up.

Finally, jump straight up in the air to stay out of reach of this ugly bug-eyed monster but don't jump too early.

Pomegranate Tree in Poptropica Mythology Island

How to Get the Pomegranate in Mythology Island

Pretty much everyone knows by now thatPoptropica Mythology Island is now available for everyone to play. One of the big questions that everyone is asking is how to get the pomegranate. You’ll need this item to get into the Underworld and complete your quest for Zeus. Getting the pomegranate is actually pretty easy, but you have to know where to look and exactly how to jump up to get there. Here’s a little step-by-step guide to show you exactly how to do it:

  1. First, go to the Garden of the Sphinx, which is to the left of the Tree of Immortality.
  2. Jump onto the platform to the right of the sphinx.
  3. Jump again to the right to the next platform.
  4. Jump up and to the right to land on the platform with the rope and sign for the aqueducts.
  5. Now jump up and to the left.
  6. Jump up and to the left one more time.

If all goes well, you should be standing on a platform with a fruit tree and a sign that says, “Free! You pick ‘em. You keep ‘em.” Jump up to the fruits to collect some pomegranates. You’re on your way to Hades!

Hercules moves a boulder in Poptropica

Mythology Island – Spotlight on Hercules

Hercules, who was actually known as Heracles to the Greeks (Hercules is his Roman name) was one of the most powerful and beloved of all the Greek Heroes. He was born the son of Zeus and a mortal woman, and early on showed his strength and survival skills. When he was only a few months old, a jealous Hera sent two serpents to his crib to slay him. But he was later found with both the snakes crushed in his hands and was playing with them as though they were toys.

Hercules is most famous for his twelve labors, which were given to him by his arch-enemy King Eurystheus. He was originally given ten labors, but then had to complete two more after the King deemed that two of them were not completed correctly. Among the labors were destroying the Hydra, capturing Cerberus, and capturing the Cretan Bull.

Hercules in Poptropica

Hercules is a popular and strong hero.

In Poptropica, Hercules has already achieved his great fame and you must lure him out of his cafe, where he is busy signing autographs. He won’t help you out until after you’ve completed your mission for Zeus and you’ll need to have Aprodite’s mirror before you can convince him to join you. Hercules will assist you with his strength by moving the obstacles that prevent you from getting inside the Underworld and Poseidon’s realm. Finally, Hercules will open the gate to Mount Olympus, where you’ll battle Zeus to save all of Poptropica.

In Greek Mythology, Hercules is granted immortality for his heroics and becomes a God, joining the Olympians as the greatest hero of all time. In Poptropica, he has a less fortunate fate. He gains immortality as a statue, turned to stone by the evil Medusa!

Zeus in Poptropica Mythology Island

Mythology Island – Spotlight on Zeus

Zeus in Poptropica

There are Gods and then there is Zeus, the most powerful of them all. He rules the domain of the sky, and is often known as the thunder god. He is most famous for his powerful thunderbolts, and ancient Greeks believed he created thunderstorms to exert his power or frighten his enemies.

Zeus rules over all the other gods upon Mount Olympus. He was the youngest son of Cronus and Rhea, two of the original Titans that ruled before the Gods. But Cronus learned that his youngest son was destined to overthrow him, so he began to swallow his newborn children whole. Rhea did not want her youngest son to be devoured, so she tricked Cronus by giving him a stone wrapped in a baby’s blanket. Thus, Zeus was spared this horrible (and kind of gross) fate. He was taken away to Crete where he was raised by a divine goat named Amaltheia. Really!

Zeus later led a rebellion against his father, and freed his brothers and sisters. Together, they overthrew the Titans and banished them. Thus the age of the Gods began, with Zeus as their leader.

Zeus was never known to be a nice guy, and in Poptropica he is definitely determined to get even more power. You’ll first meet him after you find the golden apple on the tree of life, which belongs to him. He stops short of smiting you with a thunderbolt and instead asks you to complete an important quest for him before he will grant you the immortality that the golden apple provides. This begins the first part of Mythology Island, where you try to locate five rare and powerful items for Zeus.

But Zeus will betray you in the end and this will lead you on a second quest to get help from Zeus’ two brothers, Hades and Poseidon. Once you have secured their assistance, you’ll take on Zeus himself in an epic final confrontation to save all of Poptropica from his terrible rule!

The Minotaur in Poptropica Mythology Island

Mythology Island – Spotlight on the Minotaur

If you haven’t see the Mythology Island Walkthrough yet, check it out to get help with solving this fun island quest.

In the meantime, we’ll continue our spotlight on some of the Gods and creatures from Greek mythology that you’ll find during your quest on Poptropica Mythology Island.

The Minotaur

The Minotaur is one of the most famous beats in all of Greek Mythology. The Minotaur was a creature with the head of a bull on the body of a man and he lived deep inside a giant Labyrinth, or maze, on the island of Crete. He was the offspring of another creature known as the Cretan Bull and of Pasiphaë, the wife of King Minos of Crete. When the Minotaur grew up to be dangerous, King Minos had him placed inside a giant labyrinth constructed by the famous architect Daedalus.

The Minotaur lived there, devouring prisoners sent into the labyrinth until the Athenian hero theseaus killed him with the sword of Aegeus. Theseus was helped in his quest by Ariadne, the daughter of King Minos. She gave him a ball of thread that allowed him to retrace his steps through the giant maze.

In Poptropica, you’ll encounter the Minotaur in the early part of your quest. On Mythology Island, he’s guarding the outside of a maze, and you don’t need to kill him (and he doesn’t try to eat you). Instead, he offers to give you the ring from his nose if you can find your way out of his maze. The ring is one of the five objects you need to complete your mission from Zeus. When you enter the maze, you’ll get the magic thread from Athena, which just like Theseus, will allow you to retrace your steps if you get lost.

Poseidon's Throne Room in Poptropica

Mythology Island – Spotlight on Poseidon

Poptropica Mythology Island will be available for everyone to play in just a few days, and to get into the spirit, I’ve been posting some spotlight articles on some of the major characters from Greek mythology that you’ll meet on this island.

Poseidon

Poseidon, brother to Zeus and Hades, is ruler of the seas. When he and his two brothers defeated the Titans to rule the world, Poseidon received the seas as his kingdom and domain. He is a moody ruler and in Greek times, sailors feared his wrath in the form of storms, earthquakes and tidal waves.

King Poseidon's not a very happy-go-lucky guy.

In Poptropica, Poseidon plays an important role in your quest to stop Zeus from taking over and ruling all of Poptropica. You’ll need hercules to help you get into Poseidon’s realm, and you’ll need to swim underwater for a bit to do it. Once you get inside, you’ll talk to Poseidon, who will help you by giving you his powerful Trident, which you’ll use in the final battle with Zeus on Mount Olympus.

In Greek Mythology, Poseidon had a famous competition with his niece, Athena, over who would rule a city in Greece that they both liked. Poseidon used his trident to create a spring in the ground at the Acropolis. It was impressive, but Athena produced the olive tree, which provided food, wood and oil and was a lot more useful to the citizens. They chose Athena as their patron goddess, and the city’s name became Athens.

Back to Poptropica: you’ll get to Poseidon’s kingdom by first leaving a sacrifice at the altar in his temple. The sacrifice is a starfish and you’ll find it stuck to the face of Poseidon’s statue inside the Museum of Olympus. Take that to his temple and place it on the altar to enter his kingdom.

Inside the throne room of Hades in Poptropica

Mythology Island – Spotlight on Hades

There’s less than a week to go before Poptropica Mythology Island becomes playable for everyone (right now, only paid members can play). To celebrate the upcoming public launch, we’re doing spotlights on some of the characters you’ll meet on Mythology Island.

Hades

Hades, God of the Dead and ruler of the underworld, was one of the most feared gods in all of Greek Mythology. In fact, the Greeks were so afraid of him that they refused to call him by name. Instead, most Greeks just referred to him as Pluto. He is the brother of Zeus and Poseidon and when they conquered the Titans, the three brothers divided the world between them. Hades must have gotten the shortest straw.

Hades in Poptropica

Hades after giving up his crown in Poptropica

In Poptropica, you’ll encounter Hades when you visit his realm to get his help in stopping Zeus from taking over all of Poptropica. Before you can get into Hades’ throne room, you’ll need to finish your quest to find five items. Part of that quest will take you into the underworld realm. One of the tasks will be to get a whisker from Cerberus, who is the guardian of the underworld. Later, Hercules will help you get inside the throne room of Hades, where you will meet him and enlist his help. Hades will give you his crown to help you in your fight against Zeus.

In Greek Mythology, the crown of Hades was very powerful. It was crafted by the Cyclopes, the powerful one-eyed creatures who were born to Gaia and Uranus. Yeah, I said Uranus. Go ahead and snicker. Anyway, the crown (sometimes it’s called a helmet) was used by Perseus to help him defeat the Medusa. You’ll use the crown to help make you powerful enough to face Zeus in the final battle at the top of Mount Olympus.

There’s another important reference to the mythology of Hades in this quest. When you first travel to the underworld, you’ll need to place a pomegranate on Hades’ altar as an offering to get inside. This is a reference to the legend of Persephone, who Hades kidnapped and brought to the underworld to be his wife. She was freed by Zeus, but before she left he gave her a pomegranate which she ate. This bound her to stay in the underworld for part of each year. The legend is that this is the winter-time and her absence from Earth is why nothing grows during the winter.

Medusa Hair in Poptropica

Medusa Hair in Poptropica

Hercules and Medusa in Mythology Island

Late in the quest for Mythology island on Poptropica, you and Hercules will encounter the Medusa, one of the most dangerous creatures from Greek Mythology. In Poptropica, she quickly turns Hercules to stone and he becomes a statue. All of this happens during one of those cut-scene moments in the game where your cursor turns into a spinning circle. This means you can’t use the always popular costumizer feature to copy the Medusa’s look.

But wait, what’s this? How come you can see Poptropicans in the multi-verse rooms wearing Medusa’s snake hair? And more importantly, what secrets and Poptropica cheats did they use to get it? Aha, it’s not a cheat or secret at all, but an older item from the Poptropica store. Back last year (June to be exact), the Poptropica creators released a bunch of new items into the Poptropica store and one of them was Medusa hair. I guess they were already thinking about Mythology Island back then. It’s an item that you can use on anyone in the game, including yourself.

You can use the Medusa hair on yourself or any other Poptropican you see.

You can still get the item in the Poptropica store for credits or for free if you’re a paid member. Get it now and have some fun.

Medusa Power and Facial Hair

Here’s an interesting glitch in Poptropica. A few days ago, I bought about the medusa card from the store for 250 credits which you can use on any other character in the game. The power has been around for a while in the Poptropica Store, but it’s becoming popular again because of the appearance of the Medusa in Mythology Island.

A few people have noticed that there’s a glitch with this power when you use it on Poptropicans who have beards and other facial hair. When you cast the Medusa power on them, snakes appear in their hair as normal, but whatever beard or facial hair they had immediately disappears. Take a look at what happens when you use the power on Aeolus, the God of the Winds. He is at the bottom of Mount Olympus and sells you a bag of wind for one drachma, which allows you to get to the top of the mountain to fight Zeus.

Wow, those snakes must have razor blades for teeth!

It also works on Bucky Lucas in the motel on Reality TV Island. Use the Medusa power on him and his facial hair disappears!

Bucky was looking bad with that stubble, but now he's clean-shaven. Of course, he's got a new problem now.

Be Big like the gods in Poptropica

Be Big Like the Gods in Poptropica

Here’s a great trick once you’ve completedMythology Island and obtained Hades’ crown. It’s one of the best little Poptropica cheats around. When you’re wearing the crown (Hades gives it to you to help defeat Zeus) and you press the space bar, you’ll grow really huge and appear to be the same size as the gods appear in Mythology Island. You can press the space bar a second time to grow smaller.

Poptropica hades crown small

Now you're regular size...

Poptropica hades crown big

...and now you are a god among mortals.

And now a bonus trick. You’ll stay huge if you costumize after using the crown. So you can put on the crown and press spacebar to grow big and then costumize to something else and you’ll stay big, at least until you leave the current room. You can have a lot of fun with this in Multiverse rooms and other places in Poptropica.

Skullduggery Pirate Costume in Poptropica

Poptropica Skullduggery Pirate Costume

The new Poptropica Skullduggery Pirate costume has been released to paid members in the game. This is a limited edition item and you will get it automatically when you log into the game. Just remember that you have to be a paid member and you must login before May 15 to get it.

Arrr! My costume is grey. I must have used too much detergent.

The costume will appear in your backpack and is usable from any island menu when you open your backpack up. Click on the costume you use it and the familiar costumizer will appear. Highlights for the new Skullduggery Pirate outfit include a great tricorn pirate hat, an eyepatch and scar, a gold tooth, a cutlass and pistol belt, and a bandana. Boy characters even get a beard, which is really rare in Poptropica.

You can choose between four different colors for the costume, although it looks like there’s a bug when you show off your new outfit using the Poptropica Avatar Studio. The entire costume is grey! Also, when you press the spacebar, your pirate will smile and twirl the cutlass.

Blowing bubbles with gum in Poptropica

Popgum Bubblegum in Poptropica Store

The creators in Poptropica have been busy this week! In addition to launching Mythology Island to the public, and making a lot of cool announcements about the upcoming Skullduggery Island, they also released two new items into the Poptropica Store!

Putting some Pop in Poptropica

The new items are bubble gum, which your Poptropican can chew. When you use the item, your character will start chewing gum. You can press the spacebar to blow bubbles, which will quickly form and then float away and pop. If you press the spacebar really fast, you get get a lot of bubbles! To stop chewing, bring the item back up in your backpack and click on the Stop Chewing button.

There are two flavors available. The first is classic flavor, which makes pink bubbles. The second is Cinnamon Fire flavor, which makes orange and red bubbles that turn into puffs of smoke when they pop.
